What to Do When Google Home Won't Connect to Wi-Fi

I have 2 plugs and it's usually only the one that I have trouble with. I have resynced my devices, checked for app and device updates and nothing fixes it until Google eventually will decide to start working again, but it's always temporary and the issue will start again after some time.

I can control them just fine through my wemo app so it seems this is on Googles end. There are many other complaints on discussion threads over the last year on this issue and none have been resolved or have an answer.

This means you need to connect Google Home to Wi-Fi before you can use it to play music, connect to wireless devicesquery calendar events, give directions, make calls, check the weather, etc.

In other words, nothing will work on your Google Home until you set it up using the Google Home app. To do that, you first need to disconnect its current settings and start fresh. This is easy: just move the Google Home closer to your router and see if the symptoms improve. A permanent solution is to either move the Google Home closer to the router or move the router somewhere more central where it can reach a broader area, preferably away from walls and other electronics.

The only way around limited bandwidth connections is to upgrade your internet to a plan that provides more bandwidth or, like we mentioned above, start limiting which devices are using the network simultaneously.

You can reboot Google Home by pulling its power cord from the wall, waiting for 60 seconds, and then reconnecting it. Another way is to use the Google Home app:. See our guide on restarting a router if you need help doing that. The section above for restarting these devices will, as you probably noticed, simply shut them down and then start them back up. Resetting is different since it will permanently erase the software and restore it to how it was when you first purchased the device.

Resetting should be your last attempt to get the Google Home to work with Wi-Fi because it erases every customization you made to it. Resetting Google Home unlinks all the devices and music services you attached to it, and resetting a router erases things like your Wi-Fi network name and password. So, obviously, you want to only complete this step if all the others above didn't work to get Google Home on Wi-Fi. If you'd rather, you can reset one but not the other, to see if the problem goes away without having to restore the software on both devices.

What Does Wireless Really Mean? Tweet Share Email. From the Google Home app, tap the device you want to reconfigure. Choose Wi-Fi and then select Forget network. Tap Add on the main screen of the app. Choose Set up device and then New devices. Pick the home to add Google Home to, followed by Next. Continue with the onscreen instructions or follow the setup directions linked above for help. Tap the device you want to reboot.

We tried unlinking wemo and resetting google home and assistant apps, to no avail, said it was linked and unlink gave error.

When i went to unlink it said, something went wrong, try again. This question is locked and replying has been disabled. Discard post?

My Wi-Fi also has been reset in the interim and every other device has access to the Internet. I had deleted the old record of the speaker on the Google Home app on my iPhone.

I then tried to set it up again but to no avail. It goes through the whole process, says that I don't need to configure voice recognition again because it was done previously. At the last step, it hangs a bit and I can complete the setup. However, when I say "Ok Google", it tells me it is not setup. Then, in the Google Home app, the speaker shows a link to "link speaker" under it. No matter how many times I go through the process, or factor reset it, I am unable to finish the setup.

I can see in my SmartThings app that I have only authorized the devices I want to use, but they are all showing up in my Google Home. What to Do When Google Home Won't Connect to Wi-Fi

No luck for me. I have tried everything mentioned here and elsewhere, tried restarting both GH and SmartThings with no luck. Looks like GH is pointing to a wrong ST server. Not sure. My problem relates to the fact that cannot re-linked my ST account in the GH app. I keep getting and error or something went wrong message in both my IOS and Andriod device. Have just picked up GH to and have never been able to authorize with ST. Have tried only allowing the Google Assistant SmartApp which shows up in ST after my failed authorization to only control one device, clearing caches, force stopping, etc but no luck.

I just tried denying the authorisation and can confirm the same. It shows a successful connection message but no devices appear and the Google smartapp is no in ST.

Hello, just curios if anyone has seen an update for the unable to re-link problem? Please check connection. I first had this issue occur on Saturday, and I have been trying to reconnect HT and GH periodically ever since, with no success.

We want to know if this is not you. If you are still experiencing the soft account failure, please reply here after trying the above. We may reach out to you individually for more information. Meantime, know that we are actively working on this issue and want to get all of you up and running again as soon as possible.
